Eight New Analog/Digital
Systems to Bring
Advanced Technology to
Public Radio
DALLAS, TX - (July 13, 2007) -
Continental Electronics today announced that Mississippi Public
Broadcasting, a leader in broadcast-based educational learning services, has
awarded the company a $1.48 million contract to install eight analog and HD
transmission systems throughout the state of Mississippi.
When complete, the new transmission systems will allow MPB to deliver its
24-hour, seven-day-a-week news, weather, arts, and cultural programming via
advanced analog and digital technology to all of the state’s major markets and
dozens of rural markets.
The statewide project will include installations at the following radio
stations: WMPN in Raymond, Miss., near Jackson; WMAV in Oxford, Miss.; WMAH in
McHenry, Miss.; WMAU in Bude, Miss.; WMAO in Inverness, Miss.; WMAW in Rose
Hill, Miss.; WMAE in Booneville, Miss.; and WMAB in Ackerman, Miss.
“MPB is very pleased this contract has been awarded to Continental because of
its proven reputation in building reliable, durable broadcast transmitters with
excellent customer support,” said Bob Buie, Director of Technical Services for
Mississippi Public Broadcasting. “We look forward to completing the
installations and offering our listeners HD Radio statewide.”
“Continental Electronics offers advanced transmitter systems that focus on the
broadcaster’s need to reduce the cost of HD/IBOC conversion while reducing
ongoing operational expenses. This is even more critical to the operators of
public radio systems that are funded through public money and private
contributions,” said Michael Troje, Sales Manager, of Continental Electronics.
“With this contract, the Mississippi Public Broadcasting company is putting
public radio at the forefront of the digital revolution in radio broadcasting.”
The installations will take place in two phases, with each phase consisting of
four stations. The first phase will begin immediately with the second phase
scheduled to begin no later than early 2008. All systems will include the
Continental 816HD analog/HD transmitter; the Continental HDe IBOC Exporter; the
Nautel M50 Digital Exciter, the Orban 8500HD Audio Processor, and a PSi IBOC
Importer.
“We understand the unique needs and responsibilities of public broadcasters to
deliver the highest quality programming,” said Dave Hultsman, Continental's
SouthEast sales representative overseeing the project. “We believe that quality
programming deserves cutting edge technology to reach to the widest audience
possible with the cleanest, clearest signal possible.”
These eight systems will be designed and installed by Continental Electronics,
with additional on-site assistance provided by personnel from Mississippi
Authority for Educational Television (MAET), MPB’s parent organization. The
project manager is Will Collins, and Richard Garrett is the installation
supervisor.
