09-01-99 NATIONAL AGENCY OF JAPAN RELIES ON ACCURACY OF CONTINENTAL ELECTRONICS' POWERSTAR L50 50 KW TRANSMITTER
Transmitter Provides Users With Most Precise System Available

DALLAS, TX - (September 1, 1999) - When the agency that maintains Japan's time and frequency standards needed precise instrumentation, it turned to Continental Electronics Corporation (CEC), a subsidiary of Tech-Sym Corporation (NYSE: TSY) and a global leader in broadcast transmission technology.

Japan's Communications Research Laboratory (CRL) chose CEC's PowerStarTM L50 50kW transmitter for its accurate synchronized timekeeping and frequency capability. The PowerStar L50 helps stations worldwide coordinate time and frequency with other stations. The equipment installation was arranged through CRL's prime contractor, Denki Kogyo (DKK) of Japan.

"The development of low-frequency stations is an old idea with a modern twist," said Dan Dickey, vice president of engineering for CEC. "Timing information has long been provided by governmental entities, using existing radio navigation stations for time standard synchronization. Our PowerStar L50 transmitter serves as a low-frequency 'anchor' for multiple timing standards."

Secondary applications for this technology are radio navigation to corroborate satellite-based Global Positioning System (GPS) information and geological surveys of buried mineral deposits.

"CEC has built a reputation for reliability and quality, and we have provided a customized solution using standardized equipment," said David Burkey, CEC president. "We model the entire transmitter system -- from RF input to antenna -- to fit the customer. This allows us to deliver a precise, reliable product tailored to individual customers' design needs."
