SPANISH BROADCASTING SYSTEMS SIGNS CONTRACT FOR THREE CONTINENTAL ELECTRONICS TRANSMITTERS
DALLAS, TX - (September 20, 2000) - Continental Electronics today announced that Spanish Broadcasting Systems (SBS) has signed a contract for the purchase of three 816R-2C transmitters. The 21.5 kW FM transmitters will be installed at WCMQ-FM main and WRMA-FM auxiliary sites, two of SBS's Miami-based radio stations. SBS already uses Continental transmitters for their WRMA and WXDJ-FM's main transmitters. The new transmitters will enable SBS to transmit a clean, crisp and dependable broadcast signal to its listeners throughout Miami and South Florida.
Ralph Chambers, SBS's director of engineering in Miami, said SBS selected Continental Electronics 816R Series transmitters because of the company's longstanding reputation for reliability and service. "I've maintained Continental Electronics' transmitters for about 20 years, and I believe they are the most solid and dependable brand I've ever worked with. In my opinion, the design and manufacturing quality of these transmitters is superior to any high power communications equipment out there" Chambers said.
WCMQ-FM, "Clasica 92," is the first Spanish oldies station in America. Sister station WRMA-FM, "Romance 106 FM," plays popular ballads from the 1970s through today. Both stations are heard throughout the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale metropolitan area.
About Spanish Broadcasting Systems
SBS is the largest Hispanic owned and operated media company in the United States and is committed to delivering quality broadcast programming to our listeners and advertisers. It owns 19 stations in the Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Puerto Rico and San Antonio markets.
About the 816R Series Transmitter
Ranging from 11 kW to 35 kW, Continental Electronics' 816R Series Transmitters is the company's No. 1 selling product line and one of the most admired transmitters in the broadcast industry. With a field-proven track record of dependability, the transmitter's basic design has remained unchanged for more than 30 years.
These transmitters use only one tube, the final power amplifier tube. The IPA is solid state and requires no tuning. The exclusive "soft-startTM" circuit brings the transmitter gradually to full TPO and the low voltage controls allow the transmitter to recycle and return to the exact previous operational status.
The 11 kW through 30 kW versions of the 816R Series transmitters are totally self-contained, including the harmonic filter. The 35 kW version has the high voltage rectifiers and plate transformer located in a separate chassis. There are no controls, fuses, or circuit breakers on this cabinet, so it may be located up to 100 feet away from the main cabinet.
