09-27-99 CONTINENTAL ELECTRONICS INKS DEAL WITH HUBBARD BROADCASTING FOR DIGITAL BROADCASTING EQUIPMENT
DALLAS, TX - (September 27, 1999) - Continental Electronics Corporation (CEC), a subsidiary of Tech-Sym Corporation (NYSE: TSY), today announced that it has signed a preferred manufacturer agreement with Minneapolis-based Hubbard Broadcasting Inc. for the purchase of digital television and radio transmission equipment. The agreement with Hubbard Broadcasting is CEC's first with a U.S. broadcaster for its world-class digital transmission technology.

Hubbard Broadcasting already has placed its first order under the agreement for the purchase of a 40kW version of CEC's SpectraStar LDMOS digital television transmitter. CEC's flexible, scalable system enables broadcasters like Hubbard to purchase the equipment they need to meet the FCC mandate now, with minimum capital investment. Initially, Hubbard will take delivery of a 20kW version of the system and migrate to 40kW as the consumer base for digital television expands. Hubbard Broadcasting will be able to cost effectively expand the CEC system because of its common platform and software-driven modulation scheme.

CEC has installed similar digital television transmission systems throughout Europe.

"We selected CEC because of the company's established reputation for service and innovative developments in digital broadcasting technology," said Richard Rice, director of engineering, KSTP-TV, Hubbard Broadcasting Inc. "We believe our investment in CEC's solid state technology will allow us to keep pace with the demands of our television viewers and provide us with a solid platform as we install digital technologies throughout our properties."

"Hubbard Broadcasting is well known for its pioneering achievements within the broadcast industry, so it's only fitting that it is the first U.S. broadcasting company to implement CEC's solid state digital broadcasting technologies," said David Burkey, CEC's president. "Hubbard Broadcasting is establishing an important trend as it implements its strategic program for the migration to the new age of broadcasting through our state-of-the-art digital transmission technology."

CEC's high power digital TV transmitters and digital TV exciters are the most technologically advanced equipment available today. These products provide the power and flexibility that DTV applications require to meet FCC deadlines today and to keep pace with escalating market demands in the future. CEC's DTV exciter has the capability to generate both NTSC and ATSC TV signals, making migration to digital virtually seamless.

CEC's digital TV transmitters incorporate modular, solid state amplifiers and LDMOS transistors in a single module design, enabling CEC to offer television stations a new level of cost savings. CEC's design also provides module diagnostics, a unique system of linearization of each module, and a flexible air handling system to ensure more reliable performance.

CEC is an established supplier in the AM/FM and digital television broadcast industries, with an impressive track record for engineering quality and reliability. Combined with the expertise of its TELEFUNKEN Sendertechnik subsidiary, CEC has more than 150 years of transmission experience and an established reputation for digital technology. CEC has successfully combined its strengths to design, develop and deliver the world's most advanced broadcast equipment.
