| DALLAS, TX - (December 13, 1999) - Continental Electronics Corporation (CEC), a subsidiary of Tech-Sym Corporation (NYSE: TSY), today announced a business unit dedicated to CEC's advanced, solid state digital television transmitter and dual-mode, third-generation modulation systems. This is another step in CEC's long-term plan to enhance its leadership position in digital technology for the television industry.
The CEC Television product line is marketed under the SpectraStar name and represents the state-of-the-art in modulator and solid state amplification technologies. SpectraStar provides the power and flexibility that digital television applications require to exceed industry standards and to meet escalating market demands.
CEC Television is the first manufacturer exclusively dedicated to solid state amplification and single-platform, multi-mode modulation technologies. SpectraStar is the first and only solid state DTV product line to cost effectively power scale from 1kW to 40kW. The SpectraStar modulator is a third-generation, dual-mode, ATSC/NTSC exciter, and it is the only exciter available with built-in linear and non-linear, real-time error correction capabilities.
"CEC Television's amplification design and digital exciter platform offer television stations the unique benefits of solid state digital technologies at prices associated with tube transmitter systems," said David Burkey, CEC president.
In the last three months, CEC has installed and brought on line SpectraStar sites in the United States and Korea.
"The creation of this business unit is another exciting step in our marketing program for our SpectraStar products," Burkey said. CEC Television utilizes a direct sales channel in North America comprised of Bill Harland in the eastern region and John Bruffy in the western region. Both have more than 30 years of industry experience. Harland was most recently with Acrodyne Industries, and John Bruffy joins from DBK Communications. Walt Beaver heads the television support group, coming from Andrew Corp. with more than 25 years of experience. The unit also includes CEC's Grass Valley Research and Development Center led by Dave Hershberger.
